Parallels in the Bible – A Preterist Perspective
The Bible is not a random collection of writings. It is a covenantal
tapestry. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God unfolding His plan
through patterns, types, and prophetic images. These book-to-book
parallels show us how the Old Covenant pointed forward to something
greater and how the New Testament shows its fulfillment. The
Preterist view honors this rich continuity and sees the kingdom as
already established, not delayed. Genesis and Revelation Genesis 2:9: "Out of the
ground the Lord God caused every tree to grow that is pleasing to
the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of
the garden." Revelation 22:2: "On either
side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of
fruit, yielding its fruit every month." Genesis 3:1 introduces the
serpent. Revelation 20:2 says, "He laid hold of the dragon,
the serpent of old." Genesis 3:17 brings the curse. Revelation 22:3: "There
will no longer be any curse." Exodus and Revelation Exodus 7–12 describes the
plagues on Egypt. Revelation 8–16 releases symbolic plagues on
apostate Jerusalem. Exodus 15:1: "Then Moses and
the sons of Israel sang this song to the Lord."
Revelation
15:3: "They sang the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb." Exodus 25:8: "Have them construct a sanctuary for
Me."
Revelation 21:3: "Behold, the tabernacle of God
is among the people." Leviticus and Hebrews Leviticus 16: The Day of
Atonement.
Hebrews 9:12: "Not through the blood of goats
and calves, but through His own blood." Leviticus 8:12: Aaron anointed as high priest.

4:14: "We have a great high priest... Jesus the Son of God." Daniel and Revelation Daniel 7:3: "Four great
beasts were coming up from the sea."

saw a beast coming up out of the sea." Daniel 7:25: "Time, times,
and half a time."

time, times, and half a time." Daniel 7:13: "One like a Son of Man was coming to the
Ancient of Days."

of Man, sitting on a cloud." Zechariah and Revelation Zechariah 6:3–8: Four chariots
with colored horses.
Revelation 6:1–8: Four horsemen of the
apocalypse. Zechariah 4:2: Golden lampstand
and bowl.
Revelation 11:4: Two lampstands and two olive trees. Zechariah 2:1: Measuring line in hand.
Revelation 11:1:
"Measure the temple of God." Isaiah and Revelation Isaiah 65:17: "I create new
heavens and a new earth."
Revelation 21:1: "A new
heaven and a new earth." Isaiah 65:18: "I create
Jerusalem for rejoicing."
Revelation 21:2: "The holy
city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven." Isaiah 2:2–4: Nations streaming to Zion.
Revelation
21:24: "The nations will walk by its light." Ezekiel and Revelation Ezekiel 2:9–3:3: Eating the
scroll.
Revelation 10:9–10: "Take and eat it." Ezekiel 40:3: Measuring the
temple.
Revelation 11:1: "Measure the temple of God." Ezekiel 38–39: Gog and
Magog.
Revelation 20:8: Satan deceives Gog and Magog. Ezekiel 47:1: River flowing from the temple.
Revelation
22:1: "A river of the water of life." Matthew 24 and Revelation Matthew 24:7: "Nation will
rise against nation."
Revelation 6:4: "Take peace
from the earth." Matthew 24:15: "Abomination
of desolation."
Revelation 11:2: "The nations will
trample the holy city." Matthew 24:30: "The Son of Man coming on the
clouds."
Revelation 1:7: "He is coming with the
clouds." Romans and Galatians Romans 3:28: "Justified by
faith apart from works."
Galatians 2:16: "Not
justified by the works of the Law." Romans 4:13: "Promise to
Abraham not through the Law."
Galatians 3:8: "God
would justify the Gentiles by faith." Romans 8:2: "Set free from the law of sin and
death."
Galatians 4:31: "Not children of the slave
woman, but of the free woman." Hebrews and Revelation Hebrews 8:1–2: "A high
priest in the sanctuary in the true tabernacle."
Revelation
11:19: "The temple of God in heaven was opened." Hebrews 8:13: "The first covenant is becoming
obsolete."
Revelation 21:1: "The first heaven and
the first earth passed away." Joel and Acts Joel 2:28–31: "I will pour out My Spirit... the sun
will be turned to darkness."
Acts 2:16–20: "This
is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel." Peter said this was fulfilled in his
time. It was not postponed for 2,000 years. Hosea and Matthew Hosea 11:1: "Out of Egypt I called My son."
Matthew
2:15: "So that what had been spoken... would be fulfilled." Jesus recapitulates Israel's history
and fulfills it faithfully. Amos and Acts Amos 9:11: "I will raise up the fallen booth of
David."
Acts 15:16–17: "So that the rest of
mankind may seek the Lord." The inclusion of Gentiles is the
rebuilding of David's house. Malachi and Matthew Malachi 3:1: "I am sending My messenger."
Matthew
11:10: "This is the one about whom it is written." John the Baptist is the messenger,
preparing the way for the Lord's judgment. Jeremiah and Hebrews Jeremiah 31:31: "I will make a new covenant."
Hebrews
8:8–13: "He has made the first obsolete." The New Covenant replaced the Old
fully and finally. Psalms and Acts Psalm 16:10: "You will not abandon my soul to
Sheol."
Acts 2:31: "He was not abandoned to Hades." David prophesied the resurrection of
the Messiah, not his own. 1 Kings and Revelation 1 Kings 10:14: "666 talents of gold came to Solomon in
one year."
Revelation 13:18: "The number is that of
a man, and his number is 666." A warning that wealth and corruption
go hand in hand with idolatry and beastly rule. Joshua and Hebrews Joshua 1:2: "Cross this Jordan... into the
land."
Hebrews 4:8–9: "If Joshua had given them
rest, He would not have spoken of another day." The true rest is not physical land,
but life in the New Covenant. 2 Samuel and Revelation 2 Samuel 7:13: "I will establish the throne of his
kingdom forever."
Revelation 3:21: "I will grant him
to sit with Me on My throne." Jesus reigns now, not in a postponed
earthly reign. Conclusion Every book of the Bible whispers the
same story: God's covenant, Israel's failure, Christ's triumph, and
the establishment of the everlasting kingdom. These parallels are
not literary accidents. They are covenant markers pointing to
fulfillment. Jesus came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets, not to
delay them. The Old Covenant passed away. The New
has come. The kingdom is here.
