The
Closeness of God and the Gift of Wisdom
From a
Fulfilled Perspective Brothers and sisters,
today I want to speak about something that remains just as real and
essential after the fulfillment of all prophecy as it ever was, the
wisdom of God and His nearness to us. We
may live in a world where the shadows of the Old Covenant have
passed, but the light of His presence has never been closer. Scripture declares plainly that God is
not far off. He is not hidden in a temple made by human hands, nor
is He waiting to come near someday in the future. He is near. Always
present. Always available. Paul said in Acts 17:27: "That they would seek God, if
perhaps they might feel around for Him and find Him, though He is
not far from each one of us." This was written before the destruction of the temple in 70 AD.
If God was already near then, how much more now, under the New
Covenant, where He dwells not in buildings, but in His people? This truth echoes the promises of
Scripture: "But if any of you lacks
wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without
reproach, and it will be given to him."
James 1:5 We are not left groping in the dark. God gives wisdom to those
who ask, not someday in the future, but now. Not with conditions,
not with reluctance, but generously. As we seek God's wisdom and submit to
Him, we are promised direction: "Trust in the Lord with
all your heart,
And do not lean on your own
understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge
Him,
And He will make your paths
straight."
Proverbs 3:5–6 In this fulfilled kingdom, where Christ reigns and we walk in His
righteousness, we are never without guidance. The Spirit of wisdom
abides in those who belong to Him. The wisdom God gives is not just knowledge. It brings: Clarity in
confusion Direction in
uncertainty Peace in the midst of the world's noise Proverbs 2:6–7 says: "For the Lord gives
wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and
understanding.
He stores up sound wisdom for
the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk
in integrity," Notice He stores it up. It is not scarce. It is not hidden. It is
available, preserved for those who walk uprightly. And who are the
upright? Those clothed in Christ's righteousness, those who dwell in
the kingdom, those who walk by faith. Let us not forget, God's closeness is
not theoretical. It is real. We are the temple now. We are the city
set on a hill. We are the Jerusalem that is from above, the bride of
the Lamb. So we do not seek His wisdom as those
far off. We seek as children seated at His feet. And we receive,
because we are not asking from a distance, but from His very
presence. Let us draw near. Let us listen. Let
us walk wisely, for the days may not be evil as they once were, but
the world still needs the light of those who carry the wisdom of
God. Amen.
