What Is Wrong With Covenant
Creation (CC) Introduction † Covenant Creation claims that Genesis
creation language is entirely covenantal and not about the material
world, but Scripture itself never makes that claim and repeatedly
treats creation as real, physical, and historical. Genesis 1:1 † The text says God created, not covenanted,
and it gives no indication that this is metaphorical language. Genesis 2:7 † Adam is formed from dust, which is material
language, not covenant terminology. Exodus 20:11 † The Sabbath command is grounded in God's real
creative work, not covenant symbolism. Matthew 19:4 † Jesus treats Genesis creation as historical
reality. Romans 1:20 † Creation itself is the evidence Paul appeals
to, not covenant structures. 1 Corinthians 15:45-47 † Paul treats Adam as the first man, not a
covenant construct. Hebrews 11:3 † The writer affirms creation itself, not
covenant transformation. Historical References † Josephus treated Adam, Abel, and creation as
real history in Antiquities of the Jews. Additional Clarifications Regarding Covenant Creation Isaiah 45:18 † God states plainly that the earth was created
to be inhabited, not merely symbolized. Acts 14:15-17 † Paul appeals to creation when speaking to
Gentiles outside Israel's covenant. † Fulfilled eschatology does not require
denying physical creation. How It Applies To Us Today † We don't need to deny creation to defend
fulfillment. † This is the fulfilled perspective we proclaim at

†
CC collapses biblical history into symbolism, which creates
contradictions with both Scripture and the testimony of Jesus and the
apostles.
† The fulfilled perspective affirms
covenantal language where Scripture uses it, without denying the real
creation God made and declared good.
In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth.
†
Scripture consistently treats this as the starting point of all
created reality, not merely Israel's covenant story.
†
CC has to redefine plain language because the text itself doesn't
support their claim.
Then the Lord God formed man of
dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of
life, and man became a living being.
† Paul
later appeals to this verse as historical fact, not symbolism, which
means CC contradicts apostolic interpretation.
†
If Adam wasn't a real man, Paul's entire argument about sin and death
collapses.
For in six days the Lord made
the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and
rested on the seventh day, therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day
and made it holy.
† If
creation is only covenantal, then the commandment itself loses its
foundation.
† Israel's law appeals to literal
creation as precedent, not metaphor.
And He answered and said, Have
you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them
male and female.
† He grounds marriage and human
identity in creation, not in a later covenant structure.
†
CC requires saying Jesus accommodated error, which undermines His
authority.
For since the creation of the
world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made,
so that they are without excuse.
† What is made
refers to the created order, not Israel's covenant identity.
†
CC forces Paul to argue from symbolism, when he explicitly argues
from observable creation.
So also it is
written, The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam
became a life giving spirit.
The first man is from the earth,
earthy, the second man is from heaven.
† Adam being from the
earth is a statement about material origin, not covenant status.
†
CC undermines Paul's contrast between the earthy and the heavenly.
By faith we understand that the
worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not
made out of things which are visible.
† What is seen
refers to the physical world, not covenant categories.
†
CC reverses the author's argument by denying what he affirms.
†
Justin Martyr affirmed Genesis creation as the literal beginning of
mankind.
† Irenaeus argued against symbolic
reductions of creation in Against Heresies.
†
Tertullian rejected allegorizing creation away, affirming its
historical reality.
† Eusebius affirmed
Genesis creation as the beginning of human history while recognizing
covenant fulfillment in Christ.
† Justin
Martyr argued that creation preceded and grounded all covenant
dealings.
† Irenaeus rejected symbolic
reductions of creation, insisting on its historical reality.
For thus says the Lord, who
created the heavens, He is the God who formed the earth and made it,
He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it
to be inhabited, I am the Lord, and there is none else.
†
This verse assigns purpose to physical creation, not covenant
identity.
† Covenant Creation must
reinterpret this verse against its plain meaning.
and saying, Men, why are you
doing these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and
preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain things
to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and
all that is in them.
In the generations gone by He permitted all
the nations to go their own ways, and yet He did not leave Himself
without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven
and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.
†
Creation language is universal, not restricted to covenant
membership.
† This destroys the claim that
creation only refers to Israel's covenant world.
† Covenant
language explains redemption history, not the existence of the
created world.
† Over-spiritualizing creation
creates the same error futurism makes in reverse.
†
Scripture never sacrifices reality to protect a theological system.
† Covenant language doesn't
erase created reality.
† Holding to
fulfillment while affirming real creation keeps Scripture consistent
and grounded.
† Truth doesn't need
redefinition to stand firm.
