Futurists argue...

Futurists argue that the Lord judged Jerusalem, but that was not His second coming. They claim that Revelation is still awaiting fulfillment, though the prophecies of His coming to judge Jerusalem were fulfilled exactly as the gospels promised.

They twist Matthew 24:30-31 and claim it refers to the ascension, even though the text clearly says:

"And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet blast, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other." Matthew 24:30-31

They call it the ascension, but the Bible calls it "coming." They call it a joyful event, but Jesus said "all the tribes of the earth will mourn."

Futurists think they are teaching the Bible, but the deceived do not know they are deceived. And sadly, I believe that is the majority of futurists today. They are bound to tradition, not truth.

Some do not want to change what they have been taught. They cling to their denominations, their pastors, their parents, and their church traditions, even when those traditions openly contradict the word of God.

"Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." Mark 7:8

They are unaware that Jesus and His apostles lived during the "LAST DAYS" and the "END OF THE AGE."

"Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come." 1 Corinthians 10:11

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son." Hebrews 1:1-2

"But now once at the consummation of the ages He has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself." Hebrews 9:26

The last days are not today. They were the days of the first century, the days before the final destruction of the old covenant world in 70 AD.

Futurists are still waiting for a coming that already happened. They do not know if they are truly saved. They imagine Satan and demons still roam the earth freely, though Christ already defeated them:

"Now judgment is upon this world, now the ruler of this world will be cast out." John 12:31

"The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." Romans 16:20

"Having disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him." Colossians 2:15

Jesus is not waiting to defeat Satan. He already has. He is not waiting to establish His kingdom. It is already here.

"But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." Matthew 12:28

"And saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:2

They are always looking for some future event instead of standing in the finished work of Christ. They are always trying to make "soon" mean 2,000 years.

"Blessed is the one who reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things which are written in it, for the time is near." Revelation 1:3

"And behold, I am coming quickly." Revelation 22:12

"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." Matthew 24:34

Jesus said "this generation" not "some future generation." He said "quickly" not "after thousands of years." He said "the time is near" not "the time is far off."

The kingdom has come. Christ has conquered. The old age has ended. We are not waiting for Christ to win. He already won.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me." Matthew 28:18

"Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end." Isaiah 9:7

The only thing standing in the way of many seeing this is their man-made traditions.

"See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ." Colossians 2:8

Choose today. Follow Christ, or follow tradition.
