HOW
FUTURISTS TWIST THE WORDS OF JESUS AND THE WRITERS OF SCRIPTURE
"THIS GENERATION" DID NOT MEAN A FUTURE GENERATION Jesus repeatedly said judgment would come upon "this
generation", the one He was speaking to. Matthew 11:16 – "But to
what shall I compare this generation?" Matthew 12:39 – "An evil
and adulterous generation craves for a sign" Matthew 23:36 – "Truly I
say to you, all these things will come upon this generation." Matthew 24:34 – "Truly I say to you, this generation
will not pass away until all these things take place." Futurists claim this meant some future
group of people, thousands of years later. But scripture never uses
"this generation" that way. It always refers to the
present group hearing the message. "IN A VERY, VERY LITTLE WHILE" DID NOT MEAN
THOUSANDS OF YEARS Hebrews 10:37 – "For yet in a very little while, He
who is coming will come, and will not delay." Futurists turn this into thousands of
years of delay. But the Holy Spirit said it would be a very little
while. God does not lie. He was speaking of the imminent return of
Christ in judgment. "THE END IS AT HAND" DID NOT MEAN THE END WAS
FAR AWAY 1 Peter 4:7 – "The end of all things is at hand;
therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of
prayer." Peter told his audience that the end
was near, not far off. He did not say, "someday, 2,000 years
from now." He said "at hand", and he meant it. "THE TIME IS SHORT" DID NOT MEAN A LONG TIME
OFF 1 Corinthians 7:29 – "But this I say, brothers, the
time has been shortened, so that from now on those who have wives
should be as though they had none." Paul gave real instruction based on
the real shortness of time. If he meant thousands of years later,
his words would make no sense to those hearing him. "IT IS THE LAST HOUR" DID NOT MEAN MILLIONS OF
HOURS LATER 1 John 2:18 – "Children, it is the last hour; and
just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many
antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last
hour." The presence of many antichrists
confirmed that it was already the "last hour", not the
beginning of a new age to last for millennia. "SOME STANDING HERE WILL NOT TASTE DEATH" DID
NOT REFER TO PENTECOST Matthew 16:27-28 – "For the Son of Man is going to
come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will repay
every person according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are
some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until
they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." Futurists try to make this about
Pentecost or the Transfiguration, but those events did not involve
the coming with angels in judgment. Jesus was referring to His
return in power against Jerusalem in AD 70. "MUST SHORTLY TAKE PLACE" DID NOT MEAN DELAYED Revelation 1:1 – "The
Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His
bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place." Revelation 22:6 – "These words are faithful and true,
and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His
angel to show His bond-servants the things which must soon take
place." Futurism argues these words apply to
events still waiting 2,000 years later. But the text clearly says
"shortly", and God confirmed it twice. "THE TIME IS NEAR" DID NOT MEAN DISTANT Revelation 1:3 – "Blessed
is the one who reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy,
and keep the things which are written in it, for the time is near." Revelation 22:10 – "Do not seal up the words of the
prophecy of this book, for the time is near." Compare this with Daniel 8:26 – "But
as for you, keep the vision secret, for it pertains to many days in
the future." Daniel's prophecy was hundreds of years off, so it
was sealed. Revelation was "near", so it was unsealed. "SOON" DID NOT MEAN NOT SOON Philippians 2:19 – "But I
hope, in the Lord Jesus, to send Timothy to you soon, so that I
also may be encouraged." Revelation 22:12 – "Behold,
I am coming soon." Revelation 22:20 – "Yes, I am coming soon." If "soon" meant "not
soon", then the word has no meaning. Jesus said He was coming
soon, and that was in reference to the coming judgment on Jerusalem. "MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD" DOES NOT MEAN
A PHYSICAL KINGDOM ON EARTH John 18:36 – "My kingdom
is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants
would be fighting." Luke 17:20-21 – "The kingdom of God is not coming
with signs that can be observed... for behold, the kingdom of God
is in your midst." The kingdom is spiritual, not
physical. Futurism claims a literal earthly millennial kingdom,
which contradicts Jesus' words. THE GOSPEL WAS PREACHED TO THE WHOLE WORLD IN THE FIRST
CENTURY Acts 19:20 – "So the word
of the Lord was growing and prevailing mightily." Romans 1:8 – "Your faith
is being proclaimed throughout the world." Romans 10:18 – "Their
voice has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends
of the world." Colossians 1:6 – "The
gospel... is bearing fruit and increasing throughout the entire
world." Colossians 1:23 – "Proclaimed
in all creation under heaven." 1 Thessalonians 1:8 – "The word of the Lord has
sounded forth from you... in every place." The gospel had reached the known world
of their day. Paul said so repeatedly. THE KINGDOM WAS TAKEN FROM ISRAEL AND GIVEN TO OTHERS Matthew 21:43 – "The kingdom of God will be taken
away from you, and given to a people producing its fruit." This was fulfilled in the first
century. It was not delayed or reversed. NO FRUIT WILL EVER COME FROM OLD COVENANT ISRAEL AGAIN Matthew 21:19 – "No longer shall there ever be any
fruit from you." Jesus cursed the fig tree, a symbol of
Israel. The judgment was final. Futurism says Israel will bear fruit
again, but Jesus said otherwise. THE TEMPLE WOULD BE DESTROYED, NOT REBUILT Daniel 9:26 – "The people
of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the
sanctuary." Zechariah 14:11 – "Jerusalem will dwell in security."
(after judgment) There is no verse promising a third
temple. The New Testament teaches that the body of Christ is the
temple now (1 Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 2:21). CONCLUSION Futurists twist clear language into meaningless delays. They deny
the urgency and context of the first-century warnings. But scripture
interprets scripture. The fulfillment was near, not distant. Jesus
kept His promises. 2 Corinthians 1:20 – "For
as many as the promises of God are, in Him they are yes." Joshua 21:45 – "Not one of the good promises which
the Lord had made... failed, all came to pass." Let us honor God's word by taking Him
at His word. He did exactly what He said He would do, when He said
He would do it.
