Fulfilled
In Us – The Kingdom Within We often
talk about fulfilled prophecy as something that happened in the
first century and rightly so. But the powerful truth is that
fulfillment did not stop with external events. Scripture shows that
the promises of God were not only fulfilled historically, but are
continually fulfilled within us. The kingdom is not just something
that came near, it came to dwell inside believers. Let us walk through the living Word to
see what has been fulfilled within us. Luke 17:20-21
"The kingdom of God is
not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, 'Look, here
it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your
midst." The kingdom was never about an outward throne, but about the
presence of the King dwelling among and within His people. Colossians 1:27
"To whom God willed to
make known what the wealth of the glory of this mystery among the
Gentiles is, the mystery that is Christ in you, the hope of glory." The mystery was revealed, Christ in us. That is the
fulfilled hope. 2 Corinthians 1:20
"For as many as the
promises of God are, in Him they are yes; therefore through Him also
the Amen is spoken by us to the glory of God." Every promise has been fulfilled in Christ, and we confirm
it by living it out. Romans 8:10
"If Christ is in you,
though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive
because of righteousness." His life in us is the evidence of fulfillment. The Spirit
quickens us now. John 14:23
"Jesus answered and said to
him, 'If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will
love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.'" God's dwelling is now with man, this is the New Jerusalem
reality. 2 Corinthians 3:3
"You are a letter of
Christ, delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of
the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human
hearts." Fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:33. His law is now written in our
hearts. Galatians 4:19
"My children, with whom
I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you..." This was the goal, Christ formed in His people. Not a future
hope, but a present reality. Romans 5:5
"...the love of God has
been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was
given to us." The giving of the Spirit is not future. It was fulfilled,
and now abides within. Ezekiel 36:26-27
"I will give you a
new heart and put a new spirit within you... I will put My Spirit
within you and bring it about that you walk in My statutes..." This was a prophecy. It was fulfilled at Pentecost, and
continues in the New Covenant community. Hebrews 8:10
"For this is the covenant
which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,
declares the Lord: I will put My laws into their minds, and write
them on their hearts..." The New Covenant is not coming. It already came, and it is
within. 2 Corinthians 4:6-7
"For God...has
shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory
of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen
containers..." His light is not outside of us, it is in our hearts. The
treasure is within. John 7:38-39
"The one who believes in
Me, as the Scripture said: 'From his innermost being will flow
rivers of living water.' Now this He said in reference to the
Spirit..." Living water now flows from the hearts of believers. This is
Spirit-fulfilled life. Romans 8:11
"But if the Spirit of Him
who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ
Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
through His Spirit who dwells in you." Resurrection life is already active in us, spiritually. Galatians 5:22-23
"But the fruit of
the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control..." This fruit is evidence that God's Spirit has been fulfilled
within us. Philippians 2:13
"For it is God who is
at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure." His fulfillment is not just something we talk about, it
works through us daily. Ephesians 3:16-17
"...that He would
grant you...to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the
inner self, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through
faith..." Fulfilled promise: Christ now dwells in the hearts of His
people. Conclusion:
As
Preterists, we affirm that the great external events of prophecy
have been fulfilled. But these scriptures remind us of something
greater, fulfillment did not stop with the destruction of Jerusalem.
It continues in us. The temple is no longer physical, but spiritual.
The covenant is not written on stone, but on hearts. And the kingdom
is not still coming, it is alive within us.
