Edom
By Dan Maines
In
Isaiah 34, The fall of Edom. Notice the language that is
used.
Isaiah 34:4-5 This is describing the fall of Edom.
And not to be taken literally!. God says, "His sword will be
bathed in heaven," then explains what He means by saying, "It
shall come down on Edom." His sword being bathed in heaven,
means the nation Edom, not the literal heaven. This is not a literal
sword coming down out of Heaven crushing Edom.
Isaiah 34
In this symbolic story we can conclude that Edom was destroyed. We
cannot take any of this literally. If we did, we would see God's
sword literally coming down from heaven and destroying Edom. It turns
out God had Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians destroy Edom. See
Ezekiel 25, Jeremiah 25 and Malachi 1 for fulfillment.
The
Apostles understood that God predicted the fall of Babylon. He said
it was the Day of the Lord, He said it would be the time when heaven
and earth would be destroyed, The Lord predicted His coming on the
clouds of heaven when Egypt would be destroyed. And it was fulfilled.
The Lord predicted the destruction of Edom and used Nebuchadnezzar to
do it. It was accomplished.
God predicted Edom's
destruction at the hands of the Babylonians, Isaiah 34, this sounds
like the end of material creation. Earth was to burn and melt, the
stars would fall. This did not happen literally of course. Edom was
destroyed, Malachi 1:2-3. It was the Day of the Lord. God acted,
therefore he came.
