The End of Death: The Last
Enemy Destroyed 1 Corinthians 15:25-26 † Paul declared that Christ's reign would
continue until every enemy was subdued beneath His authority. Revelation 21:4 † John's vision confirmed the complete removal
of death's power in the new creation. Isaiah 25:8 † Isaiah foresaw the day when God would consume
death entirely, ending its hold on mankind. Hebrews 2:14-15 † Christ entered into death itself to destroy
its ruler and free humanity from fear. Romans 6:9-10 † Christ's resurrection marked the end of
death's dominion, both for Himself and for all in Him. 2 Timothy 1:9-10 † Paul clearly states that Christ "abolished
death" at His appearing, not in a future age. Romans 8:2 † The old law bound humanity under the penalty
of sin, but the Spirit of life brought freedom. How it applies to us today † This is the fulfilled perspective we proclaim at

For He must reign
until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that
will be abolished is death.
†
The "last enemy" was not a force yet to be conquered, but
the spiritual death that separated man from God.
†
Through the cross and resurrection, Christ abolished death's dominion
once and for all.
† His reign brought life
and immortality to light, fulfilling the promise that death would be
no more.
And He will wipe away every
tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there
will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things
have passed away.
† "The
first things" refer to the old covenant order where sin and
death reigned through the law.
† The wiping
away of tears represents full restoration and peace with God.
†
The new covenant life is eternal, unbroken by sorrow, for the curse
has ended forever.
He will swallow up death for all
time, and the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces, and He
will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; for the
Lord has spoken.
†
The "reproach" of His people was the separation and shame
brought by sin.
† This prophecy found
fulfillment in Christ, whose victory removed death's sting.
†
The Lord's word accomplished what no sacrifice or ritual ever could,
total restoration.
Therefore, since the
children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook
of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had
the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who
through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
† The
power of death lay in sin's condemnation; once removed, death lost
its authority.
† The devil's dominion ended
when Christ triumphed through His sacrifice and resurrection.
†
The redeemed no longer live in fear, for the curse has been replaced
by eternal life.
Knowing that Christ, having
been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is
master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for
all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
†
"Once for all" means His death was complete, final, and
irreversible in its effect.
† The life He now
lives is shared with His body, the Church, which participates in His
immortality.
† In the fulfilled kingdom,
death is not waiting to be destroyed, it already has been.
Who has saved us and called
us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to
His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from
all eternity, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our
Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel.
†
The gospel reveals what was hidden from ages past, the eternal life
of the Spirit.
† Life and immortality are now
accessible to all who are in Christ.
† The
reign of death ended when the gospel brought light to the world.
For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
†
This liberation marks the true resurrection, passing from death to
life in Christ.
† The law of sin and death
has no jurisdiction in the new covenant kingdom.
†
The Spirit's law governs by grace, not by condemnation, ensuring
eternal fellowship with God.
†
Death is no longer our master, it has been defeated by the Lamb once
and for all.
† The fear of death no longer
binds believers, for life reigns eternally in the Spirit.
†
Every tear wiped away signifies full peace and victory over the
curse.
† The last enemy has been destroyed;
we live in the everlasting triumph of the new creation.
†
The kingdom we inherit is one of life, where death's shadow can never
return.
