By Dan Maines
And I heard a loud voice
from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among
men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and
God Himself will be among them."
†
The word "tabernacle" recalls God's presence among Israel
in the wilderness, now fulfilled eternally in Christ.
†
The distance between heaven and earth is gone; the divine presence
now fills His people.
† What was once
symbolized by tents and temples is now the living reality of the new
creation.
And the Word became flesh, and
dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten
from the Father, full of grace and truth.
† In Him, the divine
glory that once filled the tabernacle took human form.
†
The incarnation was the beginning of God's permanent dwelling among
men.
† Grace and truth replaced the shadows
of ritual and law, bringing the fullness of God's presence to His
people.
Moreover, I will make My
dwelling among you, and My soul will not reject you. I will also walk
among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.
†
This verse foreshadowed the greater fulfillment through Christ, who
made permanent atonement.
† The promise "I
will walk among you" is fulfilled by the indwelling Spirit, who
now lives within believers.
† Rejection was
replaced by reconciliation, the tabernacle is no longer conditional
but eternal.
I will make a covenant of
peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. And I
will place them and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their
midst forever. My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will
be their God, and they will be My people. And the nations will know
that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in
their midst forever.
†
The "everlasting covenant" is the completed relationship
between God and His people through the cross.
†
The sanctuary "in their midst" points to the living temple,
the Church filled with His Spirit.
† The
nations now witness this fulfillment as the presence of God spreads
to all creation.
Then the cloud covered the
tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had
settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
† The
separation showed humanity's inability to dwell in God's presence due
to sin.
† Through Christ, that barrier was
removed, the glory now abides within, not apart from, His people.
†
The glory that once filled a tent now fills the hearts of the
redeemed permanently.
Or what agreement has the
temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God;
just as God said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and
I will be their God, and they shall be My people."
†
The living God no longer dwells in man-made structures but in His
covenant people.
† The new tabernacle is
formed not by stones, but by hearts indwelt by His Spirit.
†
Every believer now carries the presence that once filled holy places
made by hands.
For this is the covenant that I
will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I
will put My laws into their minds, and I will write them on their
hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
†
The law once written on stone is now written within, a tabernacle not
of flesh but of Spirit.
† The indwelling of
God's presence fulfills the ancient promise beyond the limits of the
old system.
† The completed covenant means
unbroken fellowship, guided by His law of love within us.
†
We live daily in the reality of God's dwelling, the eternal
tabernacle is within us.
† There is no longer
separation between sacred and ordinary; His presence fills all of
life.
† The promise made to Israel, fulfilled
in Christ, is the unshakable foundation of the new creation.
†
We are the temple where heaven and earth meet, the visible display of
His eternal presence.
† The tabernacle of God
is not a place we go to; it is who we are in Him forever.
