The End of Shadows: When God
Stepped Out from Behind the Veil Hebrews 9:8-9 † The writer shows that as long as the old
tabernacle system existed, the way into God's full presence remained
closed. The veil signified distance between God and man. Hebrews 9:11-12 † Christ entered not the earthly sanctuary, but
the heavenly one, bringing His own blood as the true sacrifice. Hebrews 9:24 † The veil of the earthly temple was a copy of
the barrier sin had created. Christ's ascension shows that He stepped
beyond that veil into heaven itself. Hebrews 10:19-20 † The veil represented Christ's flesh, and when
He died, that veil was torn. Access to God was no longer
restricted. Matthew 27:50-51 † The tearing of the veil was not symbolic
only, it was historical evidence of covenantal change. 2 Corinthians 3:14-16 † The veil was not only in the temple, but in
the hearts of those clinging to the old covenant. Hebrews 10:1 † The law was a shadow, a reflection, not the
substance. The shadow had to end when the light appeared. How it applies to us today † This is the fulfilled perspective we proclaim at

By Dan Maines
The Holy Spirit is signifying
this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed
while the outer tabernacle is still standing, which is a symbol for
the present time.
†
The tabernacle was only a temporary copy, a shadow pointing to the
reality in Christ. It represented what could not yet be accessed
until the true high priest came.
† The Spirit
Himself was teaching that no man could enter the Most Holy Place
until redemption was complete.
† Everything
under the law was symbolic, showing what was coming but never
granting direct access.
But when Christ appeared as
a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the
greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to
say, not of this creation, and not through the blood of goats and
calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for
all, having obtained eternal redemption.
†
His entrance into the heavenly tabernacle fulfilled every shadow and
type of the Mosaic system.
† The old priests
entered continually with animal blood, but Christ entered once for
all, completing the work.
† His sacrifice
ended the entire system of repetition, opening the way into the true
presence of God.
For Christ did not enter a holy
place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven
itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.
† The
temple on earth was never meant to be permanent. It served only to
illustrate separation until the time of fulfillment.
†
Now, the true tabernacle is not a building, but Christ Himself and
His body, the Church.
† In this fulfilled
covenant, there is no more veil and no more priesthood of men.
Therefore, brethren, since
we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by
a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil,
that is, His flesh.
† What was once forbidden became
open. The separation between heaven and earth was removed forever.
†
The "new and living way" replaced the old dead works of the
law.
† The believer now walks freely into
God's presence, not by ritual, but by relationship.
And Jesus cried out again
with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of
the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook
and the rocks were split.
†
God Himself tore the barrier that separated Him from His people. From
top to bottom means the act was divine, not human.
†
The shaking of the earth represented the shaking of the old order,
fulfilling Haggai 2:6-7 and Hebrews 12:26-28.
†
Heaven stepped into history. God no longer dwelt behind a curtain but
among His people.
But their minds were
hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant
the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. But
to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; but
whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
†
The physical tearing of the temple veil pictured the spiritual
unveiling that comes through faith in Christ.
†
The veil represents blindness to the fulfilled work of God. Only in
Christ is true sight restored.
† The law
veiled God's glory, but grace reveals it face to face.
For the Law, since it has only
a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things,
can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year
by year, make perfect those who draw near.
†
Christ's coming exposed every shadow, fulfilling all figures and
types in His person.
† The word "shadow"
is key, it means temporary and incomplete. When the true form
appeared, the shadow vanished.
† The cross
and resurrection mark the end of shadows and the beginning of
substance.
†
We no longer live in shadows or symbols. We live in the unveiled
presence of God.
† The Spirit dwells in us as
His temple, and there is no curtain, no distance, and no waiting for
access.
† Every believer now serves as a
priest, offering spiritual sacrifices of praise and truth.
†
The old covenant age ended in AD 70, but the access Christ opened
remains eternal.
† When we walk in His light,
we experience the same unveiled glory Paul spoke of, the fullness of
God dwelling among men.
