How does this verse connect with 1
Corinthians 15:26, where Paul says the last enemy to be destroyed is
death? 2 Timothy 1:10 says Jesus abolished
death and revealed life and immortality through the gospel. Paul
wrote this in the present tense, showing that Christ's work had
already begun to undo death's power. In 1 Corinthians 15:26, Paul says, "The
last enemy that will be abolished is death." This points to the
final completion of that process. The gospel began the abolition, and
the judgment in AD 70 finished it by ending the Old Covenant system
that brought condemnation and death (2 Corinthians 3:7-11). So, the two verses are not in conflict.
Instead, they show a progressive but completed victory: 2 Timothy 1:10 – The work had already
begun and was revealed in Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:26 – Death would be
fully abolished by the end of the Old Covenant age, which happened in
70 AD. That's when the last enemy, covenantal
death, was destroyed, and full access to life in Christ was revealed.
