The Day of The Lord
Matthew 24:3, "...And what will be the sign of Your
coming..."
By Dan Maines
God NEVER made a Coming in
judgment, in bodily form, EVERY TIME it was SPIRITUAL.
The
bible tells us "The Day of the Lord" is "Judgment".
"The Day of The Lord" was never referred to as a physical,
literal return of the Lord. "The Day of The Lord" has
always referred to the Lord's judgment upon a city or nation of
people. It refers to a destruction from God. "The Day of The
Lord" and "the Lord riding on a swift cloud refers to
judgment. God used one nation to overtake another.
Isaiah
19:1; Ezekiel 30:3-4 - Destruction of Egypt, Judgment fulfilled in
570 BC
Isaiah 13:1,6-9 - Destruction of Babylon, Judgment
fulfilled in 539 BC
Zephaniah 1:4,7,14-15 -Destruction of
Jerusalem, Judgment fulfilled in 586 BC
Amos 5:18-20 -
Destruction of Israel, Judgment fulfilled in 722 BC
Matthew
21:43, 22:7, 24 - Destruction of Jerusalem, Judgment fulfilled in 70
AD.
Jesus came in Judgment in 70AD just like the father
did in the Old Testament. It brought an end to the Old Covenant Age.
The Day of The Lord referred to as God's judgment upon a nation of
people.
Jesus was given authority to judge in the same way
as the Father. John 5:19-22 So, if Jesus was to judge in the same way
as the Father, then again, it would be spiritual.
The Greek word for "coming" is
"parousia". This Greek word means "arrival or
presence," it does not mean "return." The bible never
speaks of a future physical return of Christ. Other than the Tanakh,
the disciples knew of one "parousia" the destruction of
Jerusalem.
So we have at least five known parousia's.
Each time God came in judgment was "The Day of The
Lord"
Scripture tells us Jesus had come the same way
the Father did. Which was never referred to a physical, literal
return of the Lord.
There were five Coming in judgments
that I know of. And everyone of them were spiritual. The only place
in the bible that says He would return a second time is in Hebrews
9:28 And that was to complete our salvation.
