The
old covenant was brought to a full end in AD 70, just like Jesus said
it would be. Luke 21:22 says, "These are days of vengeance, so
that all things which are written will be fulfilled." That
included the Law and the Prophets. Hebrews 8:13 makes it plain: "When
He said, 'A new covenant,' He has made the first obsolete. But
whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is about to disappear."
That was written just before AD 70, and then it did disappear when
the temple was destroyed. So why do people still live like it’s
in effect? Because most were taught by tradition, not by rightly
dividing the Word. Jesus warned in Mark 7:13 that people invalidate
the Word of God by their traditions. Sadly, many pastors still teach
like the old covenant is hanging around, because they don't believe
it all ended in that generation. But we are not under that covenant
anymore. We live in the age of the Spirit, in the new heaven and
earth where righteousness dwells (2 Peter 3:13).
