The Holy Spirit - Our Teacher and Guide

1 Corinthians 2:14
But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The natural mind, unrenewed by the Spirit, cannot grasp God's truth.
Only the Spirit enables discernment and understanding.
There are those today, even among scholars, who claim the Holy Spirit is not active with us. But if that were true, then no one could ever understand the things of God.
The Spirit is the One who opens the eyes of our heart, guiding us into the knowledge of Christ and His fulfilled work. Without Him, we remain blind, hearing words but never perceiving truth. It's time to start inviting Him in!

John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.

Jesus promised His disciples that the Spirit would be their teacher.
This promise was not bound to one generation alone but continues in all who belong to Christ.
The Spirit keeps Christ's words alive in our hearts, reminding us of His teaching.
Without the Spirit, scripture would be a closed book and Christ's words would fade from memory.

If the Holy Spirit is not in us or active in our lives then we will never learn anything!

Ezekiel 36:26-27
Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you and bring it about that you walk in My statutes, and are careful and follow My ordinances.

God promised His Spirit as the power to change hearts and cause obedience.
This was not temporary, but the foundation of the New Covenant reality.
Without the Spirit, people remain hardened in sin, unable to follow God's ways.
This prophecy is fulfilled in Christ, who gives us His Spirit to walk in righteousness.

Isaiah 44:3
For I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, and My blessing on your descendants.

God's promise of the Spirit was connected with His blessing, poured out without end.
This is not a limited or temporary gift, but one promised to future generations.

Jeremiah 31:33
For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

The Spirit is the One who writes God's law on the heart.
This covenant is everlasting, so the Spirit's role in it must also be everlasting.

Hebrews 10:15-16
And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, This is the covenant which I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their hearts, and write them on their mind.

The Spirit Himself is the witness to the New Covenant.
If the Spirit has ceased, then there is no witness and no covenant assurance.
The Spirit applies God's law to the heart, proving His role is ongoing.
This confirms that the Spirit's presence is permanent, tied directly to the covenant itself.

Joel 2:28-29
It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will have dreams, your young men will see visions. And even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

This is God's promise to pour out His Spirit without limit.
Nothing here suggests His Spirit would later be withdrawn.
This prophecy shows the Spirit is not for a select few, but for all God's people.
The outpouring is a sign of God's permanent covenant, not a temporary gift.

Acts 2:16-18
But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel: And it shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will have dreams; even on My male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

Peter confirmed Joel's prophecy was being fulfilled at Pentecost.
This was the inauguration of the New Covenant, not a temporary event, but the beginning of God's Spirit dwelling permanently with His people.
This shows God promised His Spirit permanently, not as a passing sign, but as a lasting covenant reality.
While the temporary sign-gifts ceased, the permanent indwelling of the Spirit remains.

Titus 3:5-6
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Paul shows that salvation itself is inseparable from the Spirit's renewal.
The Spirit was poured out richly, not sparingly, and this pouring out continues in the life of every believer today.
If the Spirit has ceased, then regeneration and renewal have ceased, which would mean no one could be saved.
The Spirit is the means by which Christ's saving work is applied to us.

Romans 8:9
But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

Without the Spirit, no one belongs to Christ.
This is a dividing line between the saved and the lost.
Denying the Spirit today is equal to denying Christ's ownership over His people. It's time to start inviting Him in!

Romans 8:16
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.

Our adoption and assurance as God's children rests on the Spirit's witness.
Without this testimony, we are left in doubt and fear.
The Spirit's work is not external, but internal, He confirms sonship within our hearts.

Galatians 4:6
Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, Abba! Father!

The cry of intimacy proves the Spirit remains in us.
Without Him, we could not approach God as Father.
The Spirit is the bond of sonship that ties us directly to God.

Ephesians 1:13-14
You were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of the promise, who is a first installment of our inheritance.

The Spirit is the seal and guarantee of our inheritance.
His presence assures us that God will complete His promises.
If the Spirit has ceased, then believers today have no assurance of salvation.

1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

The Spirit makes us temples of God.
If He has left, then the temple is empty and God is absent.
This truth proves His ongoing presence in the church.

2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

The Spirit brings liberty from sin and death.
If He has departed, then freedom has departed also.

1 Peter 1:12
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.

The gospel itself was delivered by the Spirit.
If the Spirit has ceased, then the gospel can no longer be preached.

John 14:16-17
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.

Jesus promised the Spirit would be with us forever.
Forever does not mean one generation, but all generations.
To claim the Spirit has left is to call Christ's promise false. It's time to start inviting Him in!

John 16:13
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.

The Spirit continues guiding into truth.
Truth is never self-discovered, it is revealed by the Spirit.
Without Him, the church would have no direction and no understanding.

The Fulfilled Reality

The fulfilled work of Christ did not remove the Spirit but secured Him in His people forever. The Spirit is the living power of the New Covenant, teaching, guiding, sealing, and testifying. Without Him, Christianity collapses. With Him, we grow in faith and truth.
