Sun Moon and Stars

What do the sun, moon and stars represent in bible prophecy? With out knowing what they mean, many Christians see them as falling out of the sky or literally turning to blood or stop giving its light. When Israel turned to worshiping other Gods. God would send a prophet to tell them, a Day Of The Lord was coming. This always symbolized judgment. There would be mention of a cloudy day, the sun, moon, stars falling or getting dark. Even God Himself coming in or on the clouds. In Genesis 1:14-17 God tells us the stars were for signs and to rule the day and night. When God spoke about the clouds darkening and the stars falling He was talking about the judgment about to take place and there was going to be a change in rulership. God would use other nations to overtake the nation in judgment. God did this until they repented. Moses even warned the people That God would destroy a generation of people in the future. And that generation of people was the one that killed Christ, rejected His covenant, and killed His disciples and saints. When did this happen? It was when God crushed Jerusalem in 70 AD

Again, many people believe that when the bible says that the sun, moon and stars would turn to blood, fall, or stop giving its light in bible prophecy, that it was talking about the literal sun, moon and stars falling or literally turning to blood. Remember what happened in the old testament when Israel would backslide and start worshiping other Gods? God would send a prophet who would tell them that a Day Of The Lord was coming, which always symbolized judgment. There would be a lot of talk about it being a cloudy day or a lot of talk about the sun moon and stars falling or getting dark. Remember in Genesis stars were for signs and to rule the day and night. That's why when God talked about it being a Day Of The Lord where there would be clouds and the constellations turning dark or falling that there was going to be a change in rulership. God would usually stir up another nations army to fight and kill some and inslave others until the Israelites would repent. Moses warned the people that in the future there would be a generation of people who God would utterly destroy and that was the generation of people who killed him, rejected his covenant, killed his disciples and saints and this happened in 70 A.D Read the following scriptures in the old testament and compare it to end time bible prophecy.

Genesis 1:14-17 - The stars are used for signs and rulership. Remember when the new born king arrived, they saw new star in the sky.

Ezekiel 32:7-8 - When God judged Egypt He didn't literally cover the heaven or literal make the stars dark. He may have covered the sun with a cloud. Dark clouds seemed to be the norm. Again God used another nation to judge Egypt and change the rulership.

Isaiah 13:9-11 - The constellations (heavens, sun and stars) where not literally darkening, God used another nation to judge Babylon.

Joel 2:10; Amos 8:9

When God was going to changed rulership, He always came in judgment and the same biblical language used in the old testament sounds just like the end times prophecy futurist use for a future coming. Which is not literal! God did not come literally in the old testament.

In Genesis 37:5-11 - Joseph tells his father and brothers he would rule over them some day. Notice the sun, moon and stars were not literal but referring to Josephs father, mother and his brothers. And what happened? Joseph became 2nd only to Pharaoh in rulership and ruled over the land & over his family. Now does that sound like literal.. No!.

God Comes To Judge Ancient Babylon Using the Medes

Isaiah 13:6-11, 13,15-19; Jeremiah 4:13-14, 23-30

Here again, the sun moon and stars in bible prophecy referred to a change in rulership. There is no literal sun, moon and stars turning to blood and falling to earth. The bible does not teach that the earth will be destroyed. If a star would literally fall to earth, the world would indeed be destroyed. Bible prophecy is symbolic, if you don't find it's meaning in the old testament that happened naturally you will never see the spiritual meaning. The natural comes first and then the spiritual. See 1 Corinthians 15:46
