What
common phrase or theme appears in Revelation 3:11, 22:7, 22:12, and
22:20? They each contain a declaration from
Jesus that He is coming soon, quickly! Here they are in NASB: Revelation 3:11 – "I am coming
quickly; hold firmly to what you have, so that no one will take your
crown." Revelation 22:7 – "And behold, I
am coming quickly. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the
prophecy of this book." Revelation 22:12 – "Behold, I am
coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to reward each one as his
work deserves." Revelation 22:20 – "He who
testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming quickly.' Amen.
Come, Lord Jesus." Common Thread: All four emphasize the nearness of
Christ's coming. The Greek word used for "quickly"
is "tachu" (ταχύ), meaning swiftly, without delay, not
"eventually" or "after a long time". This repeated emphasis reinforces the
urgency and imminence of the events described in Revelation, making
audience relevance critical, Jesus was speaking to them, not to a
distant future generation. From a Preterist perspective, this
supports the fulfilled view that Christ's coming in judgment was
imminent and fulfilled in the first century, particularly at the
destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Again, This theme of urgency is
repeated multiple times to affirm that His coming was near to the
original audience, supporting the fulfilled view that these events
took place in the first century.
