
Jesus
was speaking directly to His disciples. Verse 28 makes it clear that
some of them would still be alive to witness what He described the
coming of the Son of Man in His kingdom. This is not a reference to a far future
second coming. It aligns perfectly with the judgment on Jerusalem in
70 AD, when Christ came in power and judgment, just as He said He
would (see also Matthew 24:30-34 and Revelation 1:7). This was the
fulfillment of His promise to return in that generation and establish
His kingdom fully, removing the Old Covenant system. So, Jesus was talking about first
century Jews, specifically some of His own disciples, who would
witness His coming in judgment and glory, not thousands of years
later.
