The
Short Little Season – Past and Fulfilled
As a Preterist, I often get asked about what some call Satan's
Little Season or SLS, a term floating around Facebook groups. But
here's the truth: the short little season is not a future event.
It's not ongoing. It's not something we are in right now. And
there's no evidence, biblical or historical, that says otherwise. What Does Revelation Say About
the Short Little Season? Revelation itself gives us everything we need to settle this. Revelation 20:3
– "...so that he would not deceive the nations any longer,
until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must
be released for a short time." Revelation 20:7-10 – "When the
thousand years are completed, Satan will be released... And the
devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and
brimstone..." The short season came after the
symbolic thousand years. It was brief. It ended in Satan's judgment.
There is no extended reign, no long war, no future age of Satan. It
was short, and it was over. But someone might ask: Why don't we
see any historical record of this "little season"? Here's Why There Are No
Historical Writers Mentioning SLS Because Revelation makes it clear this vision was meant for
John's generation, and it happened when it said it would happen. Revelation 1:1 –
"The Revelation of Jesus Christ... to show... the things which
must soon take place..." Revelation 1:3 –
"...for the time is near." Revelation 22:10 – "Do not seal up
the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near." Compare that to Daniel: Daniel 12:4 – "But as for you,
Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of
time..." Daniel was told to seal it. John was
told not to. Why? Because John's vision was about to unfold. Not in
2,000 years. Not today. Then. If the SLS were meant to stretch into modern times, we would
have: Records from the early church
warning of Satan's release Clear evidence from church
fathers, Roman historians, Jewish scribes, or rabbinic texts Writings like the Didache, Barnabas, Clement, or Ignatius
referring to it But we don't. Because from the early
Christian perspective, the book of Revelation was already fulfilled
or at the very least, misunderstood. The idea of a 2,000-year SLS is
entirely modern and artificial. If the SLS Were Now... Revelation would still be
unfulfilled Satan would not be destroyed Christ's kingdom would still be
pending The "soon" and "at hand" language would
make no sense But Scripture is emphatic, this all happened in their generation: Matthew 24:34 –
"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until
all these things take place." Luke 21:20-22 – "But when you see
Jerusalem surrounded by armies... these are days of vengeance, so
that all things which have been written will be fulfilled." And it was. Satan's defeat was tied to
Jerusalem's fall. The Devil Has Been Destroyed The New Testament writers were clear about what Jesus came to do
and accomplished. Hebrews 2:14 –
"...so that through death He might destroy the one who has the
power of death, that is, the devil." 1 John 3:8 –
"The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the
works of the devil." Romans 16:20 – "The God of peace
will soon crush Satan under your feet." There is no more war left. The devil's works were destroyed. His
power ended. His deception was broken. His judgment came. Revelation 20:10 – "And the devil
who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and
brimstone..." That is not a prophecy waiting to
happen. That is a vision of fulfilled judgment. The Final Nail Let's be honest, if we were still in
the SLS, then Christ's promises failed. The book of Revelation would
be open ended. Satan would still be loose. And the "soon"
language would be meaningless. But here's the reality: Revelation 1:1 Revelation 1:3 Revelation 22:10 Matthew 24:34 Luke 21:20-22 Hebrews 10:37 Romans 16:20 Hebrews 2:14 1 John 3:8 Revelation 20:10 Every one of these points to a
fulfilled reality. No fluff. No opinions. Just Scripture. Conclusion We are not in Satan's little season.
It already happened briefly, right before the destruction of
Jerusalem. There are no ancient witnesses to a 2,000-year SLS
because no one ever saw it. The church never taught it. And the
Bible never left room for it. We are not waiting on the kingdom. We
are living in it. Case closed.
