How
does this verse fulfill Old Testament promises such as Ezekiel 37:27
and Leviticus 26:11-12? Revelation 21:3 directly echoes and
fulfills Old Testament promises like Ezekiel 37:27 and Leviticus
26:11-12, which spoke of a future time when God would dwell
permanently with His people. Revelation 21:3 "Behold, the tabernacle of God is
among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His
people, and God Himself will be among them..." Ezekiel 37:27 "My dwelling place also will be
among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people." Leviticus 26:11-12 "Moreover, I will make My dwelling
among you, and My soul will not reject you. I will also walk among
you and be your God, and you shall be My people." Fulfillment: In the Old Testament, these were future
covenant promises, tied to restoration and renewed relationship. Revelation 21:3 presents this as a
consummated reality, not future, but present in the New Jerusalem. Through Christ, God tabernacled among
us (John 1:14), and through the Spirit He now dwells within His
people (1 Corinthians 3:16). Ezekiel's vision was of God dwelling
with restored Israel, in Revelation 21, we see the spiritual Israel,
the Church, as God's dwelling. The Old Covenant types (tabernacle,
temple) pointed forward to this spiritual reality, God with His
people permanently, not in a building but in His body, the Church. In the fulfilled view, this shows that
all the promises of God dwelling with man were realized through Jesus
and His kingdom, not waiting for a future temple or physical city.
