Are Angels Still With Us Today?
From a fulfilled view, I believe the major prophetic events have
already been fulfilled in Christ and His judgment upon Old Covenant
Israel. However, that does not mean the spiritual realm has gone
silent. One question I often get is: Are angels still with us today?
The answer is yes. Let me show you from Scripture why we can be
confident that angels are still present and active, even in the
fulfilled kingdom. Angels Are Ministering Spirits
to Believers Hebrews 1:14
"Are they not all ministering spirits,
sent out to provide service for the sake of those who will inherit
salvation?" Angels are not ceremonial or
obsolete. They have an active purpose: to serve those who belong to
Christ. That includes us today. The
inheritance has been realized, but their role of service continues. The phrase "those who will inherit salvation" is
not limited to the first century. Salvation continues, so does
their ministry. Angels Can Be Present Without
Being Recognized Hebrews 13:2
"Do not neglect hospitality to strangers,
for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." This verse assumes ongoing
activity of angels beyond the first century. If we are warned not to overlook
strangers because they might be angels, that applies now as much as
then. The instruction would be irrelevant if this were no longer
possible. Angels Rejoice Over Salvation
Today Luke 15:10
"In the same way, I tell you, there is joy
in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Salvation did not end in the
first century. Every time someone repents and
turns to Christ, angels rejoice. That means they are still watching, still caring, still
involved. Repentance is ongoing, and so is their joy. We Have Already Come to the
Realm of Angels Hebrews 12:22
"But you have come to Mount Zion and to
the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads
of angels." This is not a future hope, it is
a present reality. If we have come to the heavenly
Jerusalem, then we dwell in the realm where angels are. The spiritual kingdom includes them. This was already true
in the first century, and it still is. Angels Were Involved in
Personal Protection Psalm 91:11
"For He will give His angels orders
concerning you, to protect you in all your ways." This was true under the Old
Covenant, and God has not become less protective in the New
Covenant. While the context originally
applied to Israel, the principle of angelic care reflects God's
enduring nature. God's character does not change. His use of angels for
protection continues. The Early Church Believed in
Angelic Guardianship Acts 12:15
"They said to her, 'It is his angel.'" This was said when Peter was
freed from prison. While they were mistaken, the
assumption shows early believers expected angelic presence and
protection. Scripture records it without correction, showing the belief
wasn't dismissed. Angels Are Involved with the
Prayers of the Saints Revelation 8:3-4
"Another angel came and stood at the
altar, holding a golden censer, and much incense was given to him,
so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints on the
golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the
incense ascended from the angel's hand with the prayers of the
saints before God." While symbolic, this imagery
connects angels with the ongoing spiritual activity of God's
people. Prayer did not end in the first
century, and neither did their role in God's heavenly service. The scene ties angelic ministry directly to the prayers of
believers. More Scripture That Shows
Angels Are Active Today Matthew 18:10
"See that you do not look down on one of
these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven
continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven." Jesus speaks of angels assigned
to children, still active and in God's presence. This implies ongoing angelic guardianship. The word
"continually" shows this is not a temporary situation. 1 Corinthians 11:10
"Therefore the woman should have a
symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels." Paul appeals to the presence of
angels as a reason for reverence during worship. Angels were not distant or uninvolved, and that presence
continues today. They are still witnesses of the church. 1 Timothy 5:21
"I solemnly exhort you in the presence
of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels..." Angels are described as present
and involved in the church's leadership and discipline. Paul puts them right alongside God and Christ as witnesses.
This was not a temporary ceremonial idea. Revelation 22:8-9
"And I, John, am the one who heard
and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to
worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. But he
said to me, 'Do not do that, I am a fellow servant of yours and of
your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this
book. Worship God!'" The angel remains with John after
the vision. He calls himself a fellow servant
of those who obey God's word, showing connection to believers
today. He was not just for John. He was serving all who obey. Zechariah 1:10-11
"These are the ones whom the Lord has
sent to patrol the earth. And they answered the angel of the
Lord..." This vision from the Old
Testament reveals angels as observers and reporters of human
activity. That principle reflects a role they still may fulfill under
God's authority. Angelic oversight is part of God's consistent
governance. Conclusion The fulfilled kingdom is not a silent,
empty shell. It is alive. It is spiritual. And it includes the
continued presence of God's holy messengers. The same God who sent
angels before the Cross, during the first century, and in the
judgment upon Jerusalem, has not stopped using them. Angels are
still around today, ministering, rejoicing, watching, and glorifying
God as part of the heavenly order we now belong to. We are not alone. You Likely Have Angels Around
You Right Now Based on Scripture, it's reasonable to believe that you have at
least one angel assigned to you and possibly more: One may be for protection,
as Psalm 91:11 promises: "He will give His angels orders
concerning you, to protect you in all your ways." Another may be involved in
spiritual matters, like prayer or worship
(Revelation 8:3-4, 1 Corinthians 11:10). You may have a personal
angelic guardian, as Matthew 18:10 implies: "Their
angels... continually see the face of My Father." Angels are also fellow servants, aware of
your obedience (Revelation 22:9). God has not left His people without
help. You are part of the spiritual kingdom surrounded by heavenly
servants who serve, protect, and rejoice over you. Yes, angels are still with us today
and they are with you.
