Reign
on Earth? Jesus clearly stated, "My
kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36). It is not
political, not earthly, but spiritual (Romans 14:17). Jesus said, "The
kingdom of God is in your midst" (Luke 17:21),
affirming it was already present during His ministry. The kingdom began in the first
century: "The time is
fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand" (Mark
1:15) "Some of those who
are standing here will not taste death until they see the Son of
Man coming in His kingdom" (Matthew 16:28) Paul declared believers had
already been "rescued from the domain of darkness and
transferred to the kingdom of His beloved Son"
(Colossians 1:13) Revelation never says Jesus will
reign on earth. His reign is from heaven: "We have such a
high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the
throne of the Majesty in the heavens" (Hebrews 8:1) There is no need for Him
to be on earth to reign (Hebrews 8:4) Jesus' reign has no end,
and it is not tied to a literal thousand-year reign: "He shall build a
house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom
forever" (2 Samuel 7:13) "Of His kingdom
there will be no end" (Luke 1:33) "His dominion is an
everlasting dominion" (Daniel 4:3) "The kingdom of the
world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He
will reign forever and ever" (Revelation 11:15) The New Covenant is
eternal: "The blood of the
eternal covenant" (Hebrews 13:20) The gospel is eternal: "I saw another angel flying in midheaven,
having an eternal gospel to preach" (Revelation
14:6) Jesus does not need to reign
physically on earth. He has been reigning from heaven since His
ascension, and His kingdom, covenant, and gospel are eternal and
unshakable.
