10 Prophecies Fulfilled in Christ's Journey to the Cross and the Resurrection

Before the foundation of the world, God had already prepared the plan of redemption. Christ's path to the cross and the empty tomb was not random, but prophesied in detail across centuries. The Scriptures bear witness to this divine orchestration, fulfilled in Jesus, the Son of God.

1. Christ Entered Jerusalem as King on a Donkey

  • Prophecy: "Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is righteous and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey." (Zechariah 9:9)

  • Fulfillment: "Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 'Do not fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey's colt.'" (John 12:14-15)

2. He Was Rejected by His Own People

  • Prophecy: "He was despised and abandoned by men, a man of great pain and familiar with sickness... He was despised, and we had no regard for Him." (Isaiah 53:3)

  • Fulfillment: "He came to His own, and His own people did not accept Him." (John 1:11)

3. He Remained Silent Before His Accusers

  • Prophecy: "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth... like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth." (Isaiah 53:7)

  • Fulfillment: "But Jesus said nothing further in answer, so Pilate was amazed." (Mark 15:5)

4. His Garments Were Divided and Lots Cast

  • Prophecy: "They divide my garments among them, and they cast lots for my clothing." (Psalm 22:18)

  • Fulfillment: "Then the soldiers took His garments... and they cast lots for them to decide what each soldier would take." (John 19:23-24)

5. None of His Bones Were Broken

  • Prophecy: "They are to leave none of it until morning, and not break any bone of it." (Numbers 9:12)

  • Fulfillment: "They did not break His legs... For these things took place so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: 'Not a bone of Him shall be broken.'" (John 19:33, 36)

6. His Hands and Feet Were Pierced

  • Prophecy: "They pierced my hands and my feet." (Psalm 22:16)

  • Fulfillment: "See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see..." (Luke 24:39)

7. He Died as a Sacrifice for Sin

  • Prophecy: "But He was pierced for our offenses... and by His wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)

  • Fulfillment: "He Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross..." (1 Peter 2:24)

8. He Was Buried in a Rich Man's Tomb

  • Prophecy: "His grave was assigned with wicked men, yet He was with a rich man in His death..." (Isaiah 53:9)

  • Fulfillment: "A rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph... laid it in his own new tomb." (Matthew 27:57-60)

9. He Rose from the Dead

  • Prophecy: "For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay." (Psalm 16:10)

  • Fulfillment: "He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said." (Matthew 28:6)

10. He Was Exalted to the Right Hand of God

  • Prophecy: "The Lord says to my Lord: 'Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.'" (Psalm 110:1)

  • Fulfillment: "But He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God." (Hebrews 10:12)

Jesus Is the Fulfillment of Scripture

  • "For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you." (1 Peter 1:20)

  • "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

Jesus is the Word made flesh. He is the Light of the world, the Bread of life, the Resurrection and the Life. He is the fulfillment of every prophetic word. No man comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6)
