Parallels Between Isaiah and Revelation – A Preterist Perspective When we compare Isaiah and Revelation, we see an incredible harmony. Isaiah prophesied of the judgment to come, and the glory that would follow. John saw it fulfilled. These are not random poetic similarities. These are covenantal connections, proof that God completed what He promised.

New Heavens and New Earth

  • Isaiah 65:17 "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things will not be remembered or come to mind."

  • Revelation 21:1 "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea."

This is not about planetary destruction. This is about the removal of the old covenant order and the establishment of the new. Isaiah looked forward to it. John saw it fulfilled.

The New Jerusalem

  • Isaiah 65:18 "But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create, for behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing and her people for gladness."

  • Revelation 21:2 "And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

The New Jerusalem is not a future city made of gold in outer space. It is the covenant people of God, the church, the bride of Christ. Isaiah foresaw it, and Revelation reveals her in full glory.

Bride Imagery and Marriage of the Lord

  • Isaiah 62:5 "And as the groom rejoices over the bride, so your God will rejoice over you."

  • Revelation 19:7 "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has prepared herself."

The bride is not modern-day Israel or a church in heaven. She is the faithful remnant, redeemed through Christ, united in covenant through His blood.

Judgment on the Harlot

  • Isaiah 1:21 "How the faithful city has become a prostitute, she who was full of justice!"

  • Revelation 17:1 "Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters."

In both cases, the harlot is Jerusalem. Once faithful, she became unfaithful and was judged. The harlot is not Rome. It is covenantal Jerusalem, who rejected the Messiah.

No More Hunger or Thirst

  • Isaiah 49:10 "They will not hunger or thirst, nor will the scorching heat or sun strike them down..."

  • Revelation 7:16 "They will no longer hunger nor thirst, nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any scorching heat."

This is the promise to those in Christ, the new covenant people who dwell in His kingdom and presence.

God Dwelling With His People

  • Isaiah 7:14 "Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will name Him Immanuel."

  • Revelation 21:3 "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people..."

God with us. Not in a distant future, but beginning in Christ and completed in the church He established.

Streams in the Wilderness and Living Water

  • Isaiah 35:6 "Waters will burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert."

  • Revelation 22:1 "And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb."

This imagery speaks of spiritual life and renewal. The living water was promised by Isaiah and fulfilled in the kingdom of God through Jesus.

God's People Given a New Name

  • Isaiah 62:2 "And you will be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will designate."

  • Revelation 2:17 "I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows except the one who receives it."

The new name is symbolic of a new identity in Christ. The true Israel is not by flesh, but by faith.

Kings and Nations Bring Glory

  • Isaiah 60:11 "And your gates will be open continually... so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations."

  • Revelation 21:24 "The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it."

The gospel was never limited to Israel. The nations are welcomed into the New Jerusalem. Isaiah prophesied it, and Revelation confirms it.

The Light of the Lord Replaces the Sun

  • Isaiah 60:19 "No longer will you have the sun for light by day, nor will the moon give you light for brightness, but you will have the Lord as an everlasting light."

  • Revelation 21:23 "And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb."

This is not about astronomy, but covenant light. The Lord is our light and our glory in the new covenant kingdom.

Conclusion:

The connections between Isaiah and Revelation are undeniable. Isaiah prophesied of a new covenant world, a restored Jerusalem, a joyful bride, and a righteous kingdom. Revelation shows all of that fulfilled in Christ, through judgment on apostate Israel and the revealing of the true people of God.

The kingdom has come. The bride is here. The New Jerusalem is not future, but present. We are not waiting for a physical city or a cosmic explosion. We are living in the age Isaiah foresaw, and John unveiled.
