Never
To Be Found Again
Matthew 24 and 25 are not about
some future tribulation or today's modern Jew. Those chapters were
specific to that
generation Jesus was
speaking to (Matthew 24:34). Jesus was warning 1st-century Israel of
their coming judgment under the Old Covenant. Yes, Jews today can be
saved in Christ like anyone else, but the Old Covenant nation was
judged, removed, and never
to be found again in a
conventional sense. Revelation
18:21-23 says: "Then
a strong angel picked up a stone like a great millstone and threw it
into the sea, saying, 'So will Babylon, the great city, be thrown
down with violence, and will never be found again. And the sound of
harpists, musicians, flute-players, and trumpeters will never be
heard in you again; and no craftsman of any craft will ever be found
in you again; and the sound of a mill will never be heard in you
again; and the light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and
the voice of the groom and bride will never be heard in you again.
For your merchants were the powerful people of the earth, because
all the nations were deceived by your witchcraft.'"
(NASB) This
is not about some future global empire. This is Jerusalem.
Revelation 11:8 calls the city where Jesus was crucified "Sodom
and Egypt" spiritually. That is Jerusalem. Jesus had already
said where all the righteous blood would be found: "So
that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on
earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah...
truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who
have been sent to her!"
(Matthew 23:35-37) That
great city was Babylon in Revelation, cast into the sea, never
to rise again. Its lamp
was extinguished. Its covenant role was finished. Jesus made this
crystal clear: Matthew
21:43
"Therefore
I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and
given to a people producing its fruit." God was done with
Old Covenant Israel as a nation. The kingdom was taken and given to
the New Covenant body of Christ. Hebrews
8:13 says:
"When
He said, 'A new covenant,' He has made the first obsolete. But
whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is about to
disappear."
That
disappearance was fulfilled in 70AD. It vanished, and there is no
return. Jesus wept over
Jerusalem, knowing its final fate: Luke
19:43-44
"For
the days will come upon you when your enemies will put up a
barricade... and they will not leave in you one stone upon another,
because you did not recognize the time of your visitation." And He said
plainly: Matthew
23:38
"Behold,
your house is being left to you desolate!" The Old Jerusalem
was the harlot (Revelation 17:1), drunk with the blood of the
prophets (Revelation 18:24), and it was permanently replaced by the
New Jerusalem, the bride (Revelation 21:2, 9). Revelation
21:2
"And
I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from
God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband." Hebrews
12:22-24
"But
you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the
heavenly Jerusalem..." We are already
citizens of that New Jerusalem. The old city was judged and thrown
down forever. The New Covenant city remains. Revelation
22:3-5
"There
will no longer be any curse... they will see His face... and they
will reign forever and ever." 2
Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore
if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old
things passed away; behold, new things have come." The
old Jerusalem is gone. Spiritually and conventionally, it will never
be found again. The New Jerusalem
is here. And it will never pass away.
