Matthew
10:22-23 NASB
By Dan Maines
22 And you will be hated by
all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end
who will be saved.
23 “But whenever
they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to
you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the
Son of Man comes.
I believe most Christians place
themselves in these verses. I was mistakenly taught to put myself
into scripture. I will tell you right now the "you" in both
these verses is not you! It was in reference to the twelve, Not you
and I. When we understand the context of chapter 10 and the audience
of the twelve is understood, then we will understand Jesus is saying
to the Twelve, You will not finish going through all the cities of
Israel before my "Coming".
Look at each verse in
chapter 10 it's all the same audience, the twelve. It's as plain as
day, His Coming was to take place in the twelve's generation.
Now,
lets read it again. Matthew 10:23 When they persecute you (the
twelve) in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you
(the twelve), you (the twelve) will not have gone through the cities
of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
These verses are
not referring to Christians two thousand years in the future. Jesus
implied that He would COME before His disciples had gone through all
the cities of Israel in the first century.
