What
Did Daniel Mean About Knowledge Increasing in the Last Days?
Many today claim we are in the "last days" because of
modern technology. They point to Daniel 12:4 and say, "See,
knowledge is increasing!" But that is not what Daniel meant. Daniel 12:4 says,
"But as
for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the
end of time; many will roam about, and knowledge will increase." This is not about smartphones, AI, or the internet. This is about
the knowledge of God being revealed through Jesus Christ in the
first century, in the final days of the Old Covenant system. The knowledge Daniel
spoke of was the knowledge of the Lord, not science or gadgets. Isaiah 11:9
"They will
not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be
full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk 2:14
"For the
earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
as the waters cover the sea." This knowledge came
through Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
"For
God, who said, 'Light shall shine out of darkness,' is the One who
has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the
glory of God in the face of Christ." This gospel message was
spread throughout the known world in the first century. Romans 10:18
"But I
say, surely they have never heard, have they? On the contrary:
'Their voice has gone out into all the earth, and their words to
the ends of the world.'" The Old Covenant was full
of shadows and types, but the New Covenant brought clarity. 2 Peter 1:19
"And so
we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to
pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day
dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts." Daniel was told the words
would be sealed until the time of the end. Daniel 12:9
"Go your
way, Daniel, for these words will be kept secret and sealed up
until the end time." By the time of
Revelation, the book was no longer sealed, because the end was
near. Revelation 22:10
"Do
not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time
is near." Those last days were the final days of the Temple
age, not our time today.
The first Jewish Christians
from all twelve tribes took this knowledge across the Roman Empire,
spreading the gospel before the destruction of the Temple in AD 70.
The end Daniel saw was not the end of the physical world, but the
end of the Old Covenant age. Knowledge increased then, as
the mystery of God was revealed in Christ. That is the fulfillment
of Daniel 12:4.
