What
does Jesus mean by saying, "If you had known Me, you would have
known My Father also"? (John 14:7) When Jesus says, "If you had known
Me, you would have known My Father also" in John 14:7, He is
showing the deep and inseparable relationship between Himself and the
Father. To truly know Jesus is to know the
Father. Jesus is not just a messenger about God, He is the full
revelation of God in human form. Hebrews 1:3 says He is "the
radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature." The Father's character, nature, and
will are perfectly seen in Jesus. Every word Jesus spoke and every
action He took reflected the Father's heart (John 12:49-50). The disciples' incomplete understanding
showed they still viewed God through old covenant shadows. Jesus was
telling them that to move forward, they had to understand that the
Father is exactly like the Son, not different from Him. Knowing Jesus is not just knowing facts
about Him. It's a relational knowing, the kind that transforms your
understanding of who God is. From the fulfilled perspective, this
statement was preparing the disciples for life after His ascension.
They would soon proclaim to Israel and the nations that the Father is
revealed perfectly through the Son, without the temple system or the
old covenant as the middle ground. By knowing Christ, they truly knew
the God of Israel.
