Nahum 3 The Complete Fall Of
Nineveh Fulfilled Introduction † Nahum 3 brings the final and complete
judgment against Nineveh, it shows that God's justice isn't partial,
it's total and final (Nahum 1:2-3). Nahum 3:1 † Nineveh is identified by her character,
violence, lies, and continual oppression, not just by her location
(Nahum 2:12). Nahum 3:2-3 † The vivid imagery shows total destruction,
not partial defeat, Nineveh's fall is overwhelming and complete
(Jeremiah 51:49). Nahum 3:4 † Nineveh didn't just conquer physically, she
corrupted spiritually and politically, leading nations astray
(Revelation 17:2). Nahum 3:5-7 † God exposes what was hidden, the pride and
power of Nineveh is stripped away publicly (Luke 12:2). Nahum 3:8-10 † God reminds Nineveh of history, other
powerful nations already fell, and she's no different (Ecclesiastes
1:9). Nahum 3:11-13 † Nineveh's defenses will fail easily, what
looked strong will collapse instantly (Matthew 7:26-27). Nahum 3:14-17 † Even preparation won't help, everything
Nineveh tries will fail (Isaiah 47:13-15). Nahum 3:18-19 † Leadership failure leads to total collapse,
there's no recovery for Nineveh (Proverbs 29:2). Historical References † Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, confirms
how God's judgments unfold in real history. How It Applies To Us Today † God's justice hasn't changed, He still brings
down systems built on violence and deception (Hebrews 10:30-31). Q and A Appendix Q How do we know this judgment was fulfilled? Q Why was Nineveh judged so harshly? Q Does God still judge nations today? Q What does this teach about human power? Q How should we respond? † This is the fulfilled perspective we proclaim at

By Dan Maines
† This
isn't just about a city falling, it's about a system of violence,
deception, and oppression being fully exposed and destroyed (Nahum
2:13).
† From the fulfilled perspective, this
reminds us that when God judges, He doesn't leave anything
unfinished, His word always comes to pass exactly as spoken (Isaiah
55:11).
Woe to the bloody city, completely
full of lies and pillage;
Her prey never departs.
† God's judgment is based on
what she is, not just what she did once, this was her ongoing nature
(Genesis 6:5).
† This mirrors how judgment
always comes when corruption becomes complete and unrepentant (Romans
1:28-32).
The noise of the whip, the noise
of the rattling of the wheel,
Galloping horses and bounding
chariots!
Horsemen charging, swords flashing, spears
gleaming,
Many slain, a mass of corpses, and countless dead
bodies,
They stumble over the dead bodies!
† The same violence they
gave is now returned to them, this is divine justice, not random
destruction (Galatians 6:7).
† God often uses
the very thing people trusted in, military power, as the means of
their downfall (Psalm 33:16-17).
All because of the many harlotries
of the prostitute,
The charming one, the mistress of
sorceries,
Who sells nations by her harlotries
And families
by her sorceries.
† Her influence spread
deception, binding nations under her control through manipulation and
power (Isaiah 47:9).
† This shows that
judgment comes not only for violence, but also for corrupting others
(Matthew 18:7).
Behold, I am against you,
declares the Lord of armies;
And I will lift up your skirts over
your face,
And show the nations your nakedness
And the
kingdoms your disgrace.
I will throw filth on you
And make
you vile,
And set you up as a spectacle.
And it will come
about that all who see you
Will shrink from you and say,
Nineveh
is devastated! Who will grieve for her?
Where will I seek
comforters for you?
†
Her fall becomes a warning to others, showing that no empire is
beyond judgment (Daniel 4:30-31).
† No one
mourns her, because her oppression left no allies, only victims
(Proverbs 11:21).
Are you better than
No-amon,
Which was situated by the waters of the Nile,
With
water surrounding her,
Whose rampart was the sea,
Whose
wall consisted of the sea?
Ethiopia was her might,
And
Egypt too, without limits.
Put and Lubim were among her
helpers.
Yet she became an exile,
She went into
captivity;
Also her small children were smashed to pieces
At
the head of every street;
They cast lots for her honorable
men,
And all her great men were bound with fetters.
† Strength, alliances, and geography
couldn't save No-amon, and they won't save Nineveh either (Psalm
20:7).
† This proves that human power can't
stand against God's judgment (Isaiah 40:23).
You too will become drunk,
You
will be hidden,
You too will search for a refuge from the
enemy.
All your fortifications are fig trees with ripe
fruit,
When shaken, they fall into the eater's mouth.
Behold,
your people are women in your midst!
The gates of your land are
opened wide to your enemies;
Fire consumes your gate bars.
†
Fear replaces confidence, and strength turns into weakness (Leviticus
26:36).
† God shows that security without Him
is an illusion (Proverbs 18:11).
Draw for yourself water for
the siege!
Strengthen your fortifications!
Go into the clay
and tread the mortar;
Take hold of the brick mold!
There
fire will consume you;
The sword will cut you down;
It will
consume you as the locust does.
Multiply yourself like the
creeping locust,
Multiply yourself like the swarming locust.
You
have increased your traders more than the stars of heaven,
The
creeping locust strips and flies away.
Your guardsmen are like
the swarming locust.
Your marshals are like hordes of
grasshoppers
Settling on the stone walls on a cold day.
The
sun rises and they flee,
And the place where they are is not
known.
†
Her wealth and commerce can't save her, economic strength isn't
protection from judgment (James 5:1-3).
† Her
leaders scatter when tested, showing they were never truly strong
(Ezekiel 34:10).
Your shepherds are sleeping,
king of Assyria;
Your nobles are lying down.
Your people
are scattered on the mountains
And there is no one to gather
them.
There is no relief for your breakdown,
Your wound is
incurable.
All who hear about you
Will clap their hands
over you,
For on whom has your evil not passed continually?
†
The judgment is final, not temporary, her wound is incurable
(Jeremiah 30:12).
† The world rejoices at her
fall because her evil touched everyone (Psalm 52:5).
†
Diodorus Siculus records the destruction of Nineveh as overwhelming
and complete.
† Herodotus references the
collapse of powerful nations, showing no empire stood forever.
†
What looks strong today can fall overnight when God acts (1
Corinthians 1:27).
† We're reminded not to
trust in power, wealth, or influence, but in God alone (Psalm
62:10).
† History proves that God's word is
fulfilled exactly as spoken (Matthew 24:35).
†
This strengthens our confidence that everything Christ said was
fulfilled in His generation (Matthew 16:27-28).

Jesus confirmed that all things written would be fulfilled in that
generation, Matthew 24:34.
