Luke 24
Paraphrased
By Dan Maines
Introduction
†
This chapter reveals the completed victory of Christ over death,
showing the fulfillment of what was spoken beforehand.
†
The resurrection is not future hope waiting to happen, it was
accomplished in their generation just as Jesus said.
†
This chapter also shows how the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms all
pointed to what was fulfilled in Him.
Luke 24:1
At
early dawn on the first day of the week, the women came to the tomb
bringing the spices they had prepared
† They
came expecting death, not resurrection, showing they did not yet
understand what He had said
† This confirms
the resurrection was unexpected even to His followers (Mark 16:1-3)
†
God fulfills His promises beyond human expectation
Luke
24:2
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb
†
The obstacle was already removed before they arrived
†
This shows God's power acted before human effort
†
The empty tomb is the foundation of the fulfilled victory
Luke
24:3
They went in but did not find the body of the Lord
Jesus
† The absence of the body proves
something supernatural had occurred
† This is
a real event with real witnesses
† The
resurrection is the turning point of the covenant age
Luke
24:4
While they were confused about this, two men in
shining garments suddenly stood beside them

†

†

Luke
24:5

men said why are you looking for the living among the dead

Luke
24:6

He spoke to you while still in Galilee

resurrection happened exactly as He said beforehand
